Abstract

The objective of this study is to discuss teachers' positions regarding the use of textbooks in Early Childhood Education, capturing the implications of structured material in pedagogical work. The National Curricular Guidelines for Early Childhood Education (Brazil, 2010) establish that interactions and play should be the structuring axes of the curriculum. The study is configured as a qualitative methodological approach. The chosen loci were the Municipal Centers for Early Childhood Education (Cemei’s) in Montes Claros/MG. The participants are teachers who work with children at this stage of schooling and an educational analyst. The instruments used for data production were questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. As a result, a contradiction was observed among teachers, as they adhere to textbooks even when they place children and their experiences at the center of the educational process.
