Abstract

In today's world scenario, positions are becoming more intense in the shadow of a world that, despite being globalized, is closing itself off to dialogue; In this context, the weakening of institutions, power, the State, politics, freedom and individual guarantees, that is, democracy, is questioned. We investigate this issue based on the interrelationship between education, democracy and ethics in Paulo Freire's pedagogical theory and practice, which positions them as pillars of social transformation. The objective of this article is to examine how, in Paulo Freire, democracy requires and is articulated with an ethical attitude in educational practice, and to analyze what implications it projects for social transformation. The methodology adopted is a bibliographical review, with a qualitative approach, whose theoretical framework is based especially on Paulo Freire regarding the articulation between education, democracy and ethics with a view to social transformation, and on denunciations of the real threats to democracy discussed in the world today. We demonstrate how the absence of education as a practice of freedom, which promotes an ethics of life, makes it impossible for human beings to rediscover themselves as historical subjects and to reach the maximum of being more, that is, to be fully humanized.
