Abstract

Observing the current global scenario of a true social, economic, ethical and political storm, in which positions are intensifying in the shadow of a world that, despite being globalized, is closing itself off to dialogue. In this context, the weakening of all institutions, power, the state, politics, the curtailment of individual freedoms and guarantees, that is, real threats to democracy, are being questioned. We investigate the problem of the interrelationship between education, democracy and ethics in Paulo Freire with a view to the social transformation of human beings and society. The Objective is to demonstrate that in Paulo Freire, education, democracy and ethics are perfectly articulated with the purpose of social transformation. The methodology used is the qualitative approach with bibliographic review, whose theoretical framework is based, especially on Paulo Freire (1980, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2019) and (Borges 2021 and 2022) regarding the articulation between education, democracy and ethics with a view to social transformation. In the denunciations of the real threats to democracy in the current world (Barbu, 1962), (Bauman and Cortina, 2017), (Levitsky and Ziblatt, 2019), (Naím 2019 and 2023), (Mounk, 2019), among others. In the final considerations, we demonstrate how our freedom and democracy are in danger today, and how, without education as a practice of freedom, which brings about an ethics of life, human beings will be unable to rediscover themselves as historical subjects, to achieve the maximum of being more, that is, to be fully humanized.
