Abstract

The study aims to identify the different stages that involved the process of safekeeping documents, its potentiality as historical document and for the discussions referring to History of Education. More specifically, this study focused on the safekeeping process of documents from the writer Clodomir Vianna Moog, from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, which were kept in private level, until its availability in the archive of the Jesuit Memorial, located at the Unisinos University's Central Library. The methodological basis enclosed Oral History and historical documentary analysis. In accordance with the assumptions of cultural history and History of Written Culture, it was possible to understand that personal archives are historical sources of fundamental importance for the supply of subsidies and discussion of times, spaces, subjects and their ways of inclusion in society. The archivistic work developed in personal documents must be guided by the genesis of the cultural devices. Moreover, this study understands that the safekeeping of personal documentary heritage must be preceded by the interest in making them available for research, and researchers' access to it must be facilitated and better understood.  From the study, it was possible to observe that the field of researches in personal archives has been widening, regarding the interest of distinct areas of knowledge in personal archives. Thus, some agreements concerning its private feature had widened; and the documentary source of personal nature can supply indispensable subsidies to historiography.
