The article examines the role of academic freedom in the face of denialism concerning gross human rights violations in Latin America, with particular emphasis on its impact on historical memory and democratic truth. It explores how historical denialism, by distorting truths and fostering impunity, poses a threat to human rights and democratic cohesion. The study underscores the importance of accountability within the academic sphere, the critical role of educational institutions in preventing denialist discourses, and the state’s responsibilities in implementing public policies that promote critical memory. Finally, it proposes a comprehensive approach that balances academic freedom with the need to combat denialism, contributing to the construction of resilient societies aware of their history.
