Aspects of the promotion of the fundamental social right to food in Brazil from the north-south dichotomy in the use of pesticides

Abstract

The objective is to understand how the historical process of the formation of the Brazilian State and the inconsistencies in internal and external relations affect the promotion of the social fundamental right to food. To this end, the following question was posed: what can be understood about the realization of the right to food in Brazil based on the relations between the Global North and South in the use of agrochemicals? Based on this initial question, a qualitative approach was adopted through a theoretical and bibliographic review and the document method. This is a descriptive study, regarding its objectives, and of a pure nature. The article is divided into three topics, which aim to elucidate the historical process of Brazil structuring and its impact on the right to food; the gaps between legal norms and facts; and the treatment of market incongruence regarding the use of agrochemicals between countries of the Global North and South. The study infers the need to rethink the current national agricultural production system, focusing on producing safe food that promotes security. More than just producing a lot quickly, it is essential to promote access with quality, respect for food sovereignty, and the environment.
