Abstract

This paper examines the role of traditional knowledge held by Black communities in the global discourse on biodiversity conservation. To achieve this goal, it identifies the challenges and opportunities for greater participation of Black communities in decision-making processes related to biodiversity conservation policies and instruments. Through a documentary analysis of scientific literature, non-governmental organization reports, and regional and international instruments, the study presents reflections to strengthen the participation of Black communities and safeguard their knowledge. The article underscores the need to incorporate the traditional knowledge of Black communities into conservation strategies. By doing so, not only is biodiversity protected, but environmental and racial justice is promoted, and the resilience of these communities in the face of global environmental challenges is strengthened.
