This article presents an analysis of Rm 10:9 seeking to highlight the importance of the confession of faith “Jesus is the Lord” in Pauline theology, placing it as an external criterion of salvation, since salvation is freely given by God and not conquered by God. person. We start from the literary context of the pericope of Rm 10,1-13, to then define the purpose and verify the importance of the term “Κύριος/Lord” as a Christological title. In the OT, the term is closely linked to the dimension of worship, to mainly replace the Hebrew proper name of God. In the NT, he acquires a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The term Κύριος before Jesus' resurrection is the result of the treatment master/lord, implying discipleship; and, after the resurrection, it gains a character of sovereignty and exaltation: becoming a Christological title par excellence. In Pauline theology, the term is attributed to both God the Father and Jesus the Son, which helps to see the inseparability of both, as well as the theological character of the term. Therefore, it is possible to understand that the primary confession of faith is to recognize and profess “Jesus as Lord”. Therefore, this article presents the theological richness of the confession of faith “Jesus is Lord”.
