FROM BIBLICAL NARRATIVES TO THE SCENIC ITINERARY OF NEW JERUSALEM: THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST OF PERNAMBUCO
Abstract
The theater city of New Jerusalem is the largest outdoor theater space in the world. It is surrounded by a high stone wall and, inside, nine stages-audiences evoke scenes where Jesus lived and lived his last days. This communication aims to investigate the transposition of biblical narratives to the scene “The temptation of Jesus”, which constitutes an integral part of the Paixão de Cristo show that is presented every year during Holy Week in Brejo Madre de Deus in the interior of the state. from Pernambuco. During the period before the presentations, the show is advertised on social media through the use of logos, involving visual art and layout between words and scenic elements. The cross, an element with strong meaning for the show, replaces the letter X in the word passion. The color red highlights the pain, suffering and blood shed by Christ in his last steps. In the light of concepts theorized by Irina Rajewsky and Linda Hutcheon, we seek to identify and analyze the intermedia relations that govern the dialogue between verbal biblical discourse and theatrical spectacle.
