Contemporary society is marked by the loss of transcendental meaning, excessive positivity that leads to exhaustion, and the fluidity of relationships—traits of an increasingly materialistic, technocratic, and fragmented world. These dynamics deeply affect human subjectivity, especially in Western contexts where life often lacks lasting purpose. In this scenario, Christian spirituality emerges as a path to recover human wholeness and restore a deeper sense of meaning, combining rootedness in reality with openness to the divine Mystery. This article aims to demonstrate the relevance of Christian mysticism and spirituality in contemporary times by analyzing the effects of their absence in three key areas: pastoral ministry, education, and lay engagement. The methodology adopted was a systematic literature review, with a critical analysis of classical and contemporary theological sources—especially the works of Clodovis Boff, Johann Baptist Metz—alongside biblical and doctrinal references. The results reveal the urgent need to reclaim the spiritual dimension of Christian faith as the foundation of all ecclesial action. Without such mystical depth, Christianity risks becoming merely functional and losing its transformative power. The study also highlights the importance of further research on this theme to strengthen Christian witness in the face of current challenges. It concludes that a theology grounded in lived spiritual experience is essential for the Church and its members to continue illuminating the world with Gospel values, fostering justice, compassion, and hope.
