Abstract

This article aims to seek the true identity of the character of Mary Magdalene and her omitted, but legitimate position in primitive Christianity. Reflection is necessary to demystify the insults that have been attributed to him for many centuries. In this sense, the work aims to relate Mary Magdalene's model of discipleship to women today, establishing an important relationship between the exposure of the veiled reasons why her figure was repressed, with the enormous resistance of the Church to welcoming the female figure within the Catholic institution. Looking at the story of Mary Magdalene makes it possible to elucidate the value of women within the Church, which remains camouflaged even today. The history of the past connects with that of the present when we come across the treatment of the female figure in the ecclesiastical environment. With insight into the reality of today's society, Pope Francis has sought to propose significant reflections from the perspective of the insertion of women in the Church in all its instances, supported by decrees already in existence since the Second Vatican Council, which unfortunately has not yet come to fruition. For the Holy Father, the presence of women within the Church is of utmost importance for all the people of God committed to a concrete and effective process of synodality. This research highlights the absence of a public position from the Catholic institution regarding the non-recognition of women, where the male supremacy of the Church maintains, and is resistant to, the decline of clericalism.
