Pastoral da Saúde e Bioética

Abstract

Upon observing the current human frailties, this article seeks to demonstrate how the Pastoral da Saúde (Health Pastoral) can contribute to society in the pursuit of full health, as well as identifying processes of pain and suffering in the most diverse existential contexts. The objective is to analyse the Pastoral da Saúde in the mission of assisting and supporting the ones in need. The method is deductive, and the methodology is qualitative bibliographic, which highlights the possibility of Pastoral da Saúde relying on Bioethics which, in different ways, has the same objective as the Pastoral: nurturing people and defending life. The research demonstrated that contemporary reality is lacking care and attention, and despite being surrounded by technology and social networks, people feel alone and helpless. It was to these that Jesus turned his attention, thus shepherding through the Pastoral means being as present as Jesus in the vulnerabilities of today. In this sense, Bioethics, serving as an interdisciplinary bridge, can support the Pastoral da Saúde in life defense and human care, having Jesus as an example, who healed through evangelizing and restored integral life as a cure.
