Abstract

This article presents a qualitative study that analyzes the emotional experiences of psychology interns during supervised clinical practice, highlighting how these experiences impact their professional development. The research, which used an interpretative phenomenological approach, sought to understand how the intersubjective bond with patients influences the development of the therapeutic identity of the trainees. Based on interviews with four interns, three main themes emerged: the emotional aspects of training, the intersubjective experience in the therapeutic bond, and the role of supervision. Participants reported recurring feelings of insecurity, anxiety, and fear, especially at the beginning of clinical practice, which, although challenging, were recognized as catalysts for growth. The relationship with patients proved to be deeply affective, involving empathy, identification, and emotional exchange, requiring self-regulation and self-knowledge skills from the intern. Supervision emerged as an essential space for welcoming and learning, although it was also perceived as ambiguous in some reports, when marked by judgments. The study concludes that psychotherapist training goes beyond technical acquisition, requiring sensitivity to one's own emotions and the intersubjectivity present in clinical practice. Thus, it reinforces the need for educational institutions to create spaces of emotional support for interns, promoting a more ethical, reflective and humane training.
