Abstract

During the last decades, the model of the Big Five Factors (BFF) has been considered the most used in personality research and assessment in different contexts. This article seeks to analyze the historical development of BFF, its applicability in the investigation of personality, as well its future possibilities of use, considering the development of new computational technologies. Among these, we present some research relating to the Big Five and Big Data, Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence and Computerized Adaptive Tests (CATs). These tools and techniques are products of the technological advances experienced in the 21st century and have enabled different lines of research in Psychological Assessment and Psychometrics, with several advantages mainly in the field of celerity, precision and parsimony, proving to be promising in both present and future.
