Abstract

Human values and emotional regulation play a relevant role in the university context, as they promote identity construction, effective management of daily challenges, and enhanced well-being. This study aimed to describe the most prevalent human values among Brazilian university students, as well as to analyze the correlations between these values and different aspects of emotional regulation. Participants were 199 students enrolled in higher education, with an average age of 26.5 years, mostly women, and residents of the North region of Brazil. This cross-sectional, quantitative study used descriptive and correlational analyses. The results showed that the values of Benevolence, Security, and Self-Actualization were the most prevalent, while Tradition had the lowest factorial mean. Only the factor of Appropriate Coping Strategies showed statistically significant correlations with human values. The findings reinforce the importance of psychological interventions in higher education that consider students' value systems as fundamental elements of socio-emotional development.
