Influência dos hábitos alimentares na saúde mental de estudantes universitários: uma revisão integrativa

Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of mental disorders has increased worldwide. Among the most frequent disorders, there are common mental disorders (CMD) that especially affect university students. Objective: To evaluate the influence of eating habits on the occurrence of CMD in university students. Methods: Integrative review guided by the question: “What is the influence of eating habits on the occurrence of CMD in university students?”. The bibliographical survey was carried out through an electronic search on the portals/databases PubMed/MEDLINE, VHL/LILACS and Portal Periódicos CAPES, through the Descriptors in Health Sciences/alternative term/Medical Subject Headings: food intake, eating habits , dietary pattern, nutritional profile, diet; depression, depressive disorder; anxiety disorder; anxiety; students/student; university, combined with the use of Boolean operators. Original studies from the last 5 years, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, were considered eligible. Results: Eleven articles met the eligibility criteria. A negative association was identified between healthy eating habits/patterns – adequate consumption of fruits, vegetables, legumes, dairy products, foods rich in vitamin D, fish, mediterranean eating patterns - as well as a positive association between unhealthy eating habits/patterns – ultra-processed foods, sweets, fried foods, reduced fractionation of the diet and irregular schedules, nighttime coffee intake "junk food” eating pattern - and occurrence of CMD. Conclusion: The results highlight the importance that student public policies aimed at promoting healthy eating habits can play in the prevention/mitigation of CMD in university students.
