Abstract

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a therapeutic approach that has strengthened in the Brazilian territory as a clinical practice and field of research. The aim of this study was to investigate the contributions of Brazilian researchers to the scientific development of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. An integrative literature review on the topic was conducted using the descriptors "cognitive behavioral therapy", "cognitive therapy", and "cognitive behavioural therapy" in the PubMed and ScienceDirect databases, and “terapia cognitivo-comportamental” e “terapia cognitiva” in the Index Psi, SciELO, and LILACS databases. After the initial eligibility assessment, 78 studies were selected for analysis. The results show that, of the Brazilian contributions analyzed, 57.69% investigated CBT as an intervention for some psychopathology; 10.25% other psychological conditions (childhood anxiety in mathematical context, postpartum depression, infant motor development, among others); 15.38% other health conditions (burning mouth syndrome, epilepsy, low back pain, among others); and 17.94% others. This review concluded that Brazilian scientific contribution in the field of CBT encompasses updates in the field and has expanded its efforts in building knowledge coherent with the Brazilian reality. Gaps and opportunities for future research by Brazilian authors are also identified.
