Abstract

Intervention assessment is a significant element for career guidance and counseling (CGC) practices, but it does not have a tradition in Brazil, especially in field of the narrative proposals. Thus, we aim to propose a Brazilian version of LAQuA (Life Adaptability Qualitative Assessment) and test this narrative model of qualitative and quantitative intervention assessment, pointing out and discussing its potential. Through a case study with an emerging adult, we analyzed the counselee’s process of narrative change, reflexivity, and social repositioning during career counseling (CC), using the coding proposed by LAQuA. The results demonstrated the efficacy and the effectiveness of the CC, assessed by the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the counselee’s narrative changes, identifying the paths and dimensions of adaptability and their respective indicators, the central themes, and the types of reflexivity and social repositioning co-constructed throughout the process. A reconstruction of the instrument was necessary to contextualize it to the Brazilian reality, and it proved to be adequate with the potential to help counselors who are working with narrative CC proposals, especially as it offers a structured intervention evaluation tool. That makes it possible to measure its effectiveness and efficiency concerning the postulated objectives and the results expected from the intervention carried out.
