Abstract

Information Technology (IT) professionals face various challenges such as high levels of stress due to intense demands, constant pressure, and interpersonal conflicts, which may affect workers' personal lives and even their health. Despite efforts in mental health at work, there is still a lack of research on specific stressors in the IT context. The aim of this study was to identify technology professionals' perception of how potentially stressful variables interfere with their stress levels. To achieve the
proposed objective, a quantitative survey was used, through an online form consisting of 24 items. The survey participants were 75 IT professionals. The results indicate that, among the evaluated variables, those that contribute most to stress, in the professionals' perception, are communication with the manager or direct leader and career prospects within the company, while variables considered less stressful were working overtime and competition among colleagues. It was also possible to identify that female participants perceive stress at a higher level than male participants. Organizational factors, such
as communication with leaders and the lack of career growth programs, significantly influence employees' stress, as well as leaders who provide support, feedback, and development opportunities have a positive impact on employee well-being. The results of this study provide important information for implementing policies and interventions to improve the quality of life of IT professionals.
