Abstract

With the objective of mapping and analyzing the knowledge produced about specialized psychological approaches and its results in chronic renal patients on hemodialysis, a scope review was conducted whose sample consisted of 23 articles from different countries. Cognitive-behavioral theory, behavior analysis and psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy were examples of approaches used. There were reports of psychological improvements in coping, adaptation, or new living conditions during treatment. Despite reports of positive results, the number of studies published in the period and databases consulted was considered small. Faced with the negative impacts caused by CKD on the mental health of patients and the adaptive needs imposed by the disease and by hemodialysis, there is a need to produce and disseminate research that explores the results of regular and specialized psychological support for these patients and offers subsidies for professionals in teaching and clinical practice.
