Abstract

Creativity, despite being inherent in all individuals, presents different levels of expression and possible changes during development due to both individual and environmental factors. This study examines the figural creativity of individuals from three different age groups (children/adolescents, adults and the elderly), aiming to identify differences in performance between the groups. The sample consisted of 299 participants, ranging in age from 9 to 85 years, 64.2% of them females, with different levels of education, divided into three groups: children/adolescents, adults, and the elderly. Based on the responses to a figural creativity test, the mean of each group was calculated for each of the 12 creative characteristics assessed by the instrument, as well as the total score and the score for the cognitive characteristics. According to the results, all characteristics analyzed showed significant differences between the groups. About the magnitude of the effect, it was found to be insignificant of small magnitude. Several key differences in the creativity of the different developmental groups were found, confirming the importance of interpreting creativity according to the age group of the participants. Other variables, such as education level and gender, may be investigated in future studies.
