Profile of the term papers in Psychology at a Federal University

Abstract

The Term Paper has been the final product required in the undergraduate courses, is an important tool for developing critical student thinking, as well as providing relevant scientific knowledge for both academia and the society. The aim of this research was to explore the main characteristics of the Term Papers in Psychology produced from 2013 to 2017, from a Federal University in the interior of Minas Gerais. This was a descriptive-exploratory study, guided by the quantitative approach, with data collection accomplished from the recovery of Term Papers in Psychology. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics techniques. A total of 228 Term Papers were recovered, with the most prevalent sub-areas: Human Development Psychology (n=65), Social Psychology (n=60) and Psychological Treatment and Prevention (n=38). The word cloud according to the titles of the Term Papers had the most prevalent terms: study, health, family, Minas Gerais (MG), analysis, Uberaba, life, case, child and review. The most frequently used keywords were: health, social, psychology, family, adoption, university-work, anxiety, psychoanalysis, child, relationships, professional, life, depression and family. The most used approach in Term Papers was the qualitative one (n=171). This study allowed us to better elucidate the profile of scientific productions of the Psychology Course of a Federal University, allowing us to identify the potentialities of undergraduate Psychology regarding the formation of new scientists and professionals committed to practice and science.
