Abstract

The article proposes to analyze the biblical foundations of the mission of the pope, diocesan bishop of Rome, considered by Tradition the successor of the apostle Peter, who has the primacy of honor and jurisdiction over the Church of the whole world. The aim is to verify, extrapolating the analyzes of Tradition itself, but not ignoring them, if it is possible to verify that, historically, one could speak of a primacy of the Apostle Peter over the other churches, as well as to understand if the text of Mt. 16:13-20, which has always served as a foundation to justify the pope's mission, today can be taken as a definitive and unchanging word for the question.
