Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Papers containing results from studies with humans and/or animals must necessarily include a statement indicating that the research protocol has been approved by an institutional ethics committee.
  • When necessary, artificial intelligence should be used as a tool to assist with grammatical corrections and/or the preparation and management of references. Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies should only be used in the writing process to improve readability and language of the work. Authors should disclose in their manuscript the use of AI and AI-assisted technologies and a statement will appear in the published work. The authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the contents of the work.

Author Guidelines

 

Revista Acadêmica Ciência Animal is a scientific journal with Open Access and no APC (free charges for authors). 

Papers will be considered suitable for publication when they meet the criteria of relevance, originality, methodological quality, and scientific rigor. The research should be relevant to the field of knowledge and follow the formatting standards established by the journal.

Studies should be original and should not have already been published elsewhere in the peer-reviewed literature. Manuscripts that have been deposited in preprints (arXivbioRxivEmeRISciELO, etc.) or institutional repositories are accepted as long as informed. The sharing of data, methods, instruments and other additional materials is recommended, preferably made available in open online repositories (FigshareMandeley DataOSFSciELO DataZenodo).

The journal is aligned with the manuscript qualification norms and standards established by WHO and by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Papers containing results from studies with humans and/or animals — breeding and use of animals in teaching and scientific research, throughout the Brazilian territory, comply with the criteria in Brazilian Law nº. 11.794 (October 8, 2008) must necessarily include a statement indicating that the research protocol has been approved by an institutional ethics committee. Likewise, any conflict of interest must be informed in a supplementary document and attached when submitting the paper. Conflicts of interest may occur when authors, reviewers or editors have interests that may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts, which may be of a personal, political, academic, commercial or financial nature. The journal Revista Acadêmica Ciência Animal does not support the use of chatbots or similar programas. When necessary, artificial intelligence should be used as a tool to assist with grammatical corrections and/or the preparation and management of references. Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies should only be used in the writing process to improve readability and language of the work, once AI outputs can be incorrect, incomplete or biased. Authors should disclose in their manuscript the use of AI and AI-assisted technologies and a statement will appear in the published work. Declaring the use of these technologies supports transparency and trust, and authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the contents of the work.

The review process takes around 4 to 6 months. All papers published in the journal Revista Acadêmica Ciência Animal receive a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).

 

Types of manuscripts accepted

Article: Coming from empirical, theoretical and review inquiry. It is a fully documented report of an original research. Its structure should contain title, abstract, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusion, and references.

Book review: Critical analysis of literary/scientific productions that are within the scope of the journal. Free text between 5,000 and 25,000 characters.

Case report: Rare diagnoses, pioneering treatment or unusual results. The structure should contain Title, Abstract, Resumo, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and References. Text should be have between 5 and 7 pages and contain up to three illustrations.

Review article: It comes from studies with a defined delimitation or based on a review of the literature, and consists of findings that may contribute to the state of the art. Lenght: up to 10,000 words, excluding title, abstract and references. Review articles will only be accepted at the invitation of the Editorial Committee, highlighting the relevance of the topic and the scientific merit of the authors.

Short Communications: A short communication is for a concise, but independent report representing a significant contribution to Animal Science, originated from preliminary results of an original research. The text should have between 5 and 7 pages and contain up to three illustrations.

Technical Note:
the structure should contain title, abstract, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, and references. The text should not exceed 8 pages and containup to three illustrations.

 

Manuscript style

Papers must be submitted online, in Portuguese or English. Papers must be typed in Word, A4 format, single column text, font Arial, size 12, 1.5 line spacing and justified paragraph. Pages must be numbered and configured in the A4 format.

When submitting your paper, inform each author´s current institutional affiliation/enterprise, city, state, country, e-mail and ORCID ID, that we highly recommend researchers to register for.

 

Body text

Title of the article in English and in Portuguese: Titles should be sufficiently specific and descriptive. Do not forget to mention the animal species.  

Abstract and resumo: Between 150 and 350 words, with Arial font, size 11, simple spacing and one justified paragraph, abstract must include objectives, methodology (briefly), results and conclusion. In the last line, 3 to 5 keywords must be indicated, presented in low letters (first letter of the terms in capitals) and separated by dots.

Introduction: It should point the object and purpose of the study, describing the achievements gained with the research. Research reports should use the introduction to present the contextualization of the problem through the literary review.

Material and methods: It should present the methodological theory path, which guides the research, referencing the standard techniques. Essential guidelines must be provided in order to other researchers could repeat the procedures. If that´s the case, insert Statistical Analysis topic at the end of Methodology with the intent of exhibiting statistics parameters to achieve the results.

Results: It must offer a description of the new discovering. Tables and graphs must be included in this item, without interpretations and comparisons.

Discussion: It must nterpret the data and present the results comparing with the existing knowledge.

Conclusion: This is the closing of the text, which indicates the results and express the inherent relation among title and objectives.

Acknowledgments: It should be succinct and mentioned before the bibliographic references. Full identification of researching and funding agencies/institutions must be made.

Authors´ contributions: It must be informed according to the CRediT Taxonomy, with the minimum authorship criteria being: a. Actively participate in the discussion; B. Review and approval of the final version of the work.

References: The journal adopts the standards and guidelines of the National Library of Medicine. Only those mentioned in the text should be referenced. They must be organized and presented in alphabetical order, according to the first author’s surname. Internet, books, thesis and dissertations references should be avoided whenever is possible. In the text, they must be cited as per the examples below:

One author

b) The cycle of K... (Jordan, 1985).

Two authors
a) According to Magalhães e Blum (1999)...
b) Whatever will be the reason that triggered the differences... (Magalhães e Blum, 1999).
