Abstract

Currently, HIV infection is chronic and potentially controllable, and the effectiveness of treatment depends on consistent and continuous adherence. The objective was to analyze the effects of an intervention, implemented through a workshop on treatment adherence, on the perception and knowledge of workers at an institution specializing in infectious diseases, regarding the influence and co-responsibility of the team on the adherence process in people living with HIV. The design was quali-quanti, with pre- and post-intervention assessments, without a control group. Eight workers from the institution with different backgrounds participated. Questionnaires with open and closed questions were used. Active pedagogical methodologies guided the work in the workshop in the nine meetings. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were performed. The results showed higher values in the post-intervention phase, both in the mean scores and in the individual analysis of knowledge and adherence to treatment, but without statistical difference. Qualitative analyses revealed changes in the categories identified from the responses obtained before and after the intervention, in addition to reports of satisfaction with the activity. The limitations of the study were due to the absence of a control group and follow-up. Few studies focus on the co-responsibility of health professionals in the adherence process, in addition to the need to implement continuing education actions to train health professionals in HIV/AIDS services.
