Abstract

Racism as a structural phenomenon assumes the role of producing and segmenting the population into races, in addition to maintaining “superiority” and white privilege, inferiorizing black people. This work aimed to analyze scientific productions on the mental health of the black population in the Brazilian context. Methodologically, an integrative review was carried out in which articles published between 2017 and 2022 were explored in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases. A total of 15 articles were analyzed and, based on a survey of the main subjects covered in the studies, four categories of analysis were listed: a) scientific production and professional training for the racial issue; b) the invisibility of the racial issue in Public Health Policies and professional performance; c) race, suffering and mental illness; d) gendered racism. In this article, it was found that the relationship between health sciences and the racial issue is still under construction, and it is important to consider the steps taken towards the production of knowledge in this thematic field.
