Abstract

We aimed to map the evidence on the presence of stress and the incidence of anxiety and depression symptoms in cases of atopic dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis, based on a bibliographic review of scope. Searches were conducted using the following terms: "Dermatitis", "Eczema", "Psychological Stress" and "Mental Health", applied to the SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Pubmed databases. Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology was used for scope reviews, and the PRISMA-SCR protocol and the Rayyan software were used to select studies. After reading the titles and abstracts and applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight articles were selected for quantitative and qualitative synthesis. The results indicated significant correlations between the dermatological condition of people with atopic dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis and anxiety, depression, and stress scores. It was concluded that the dermatitis studied hurts the mental health of affected individuals. Therefore, this review presents evidence that points to the need for psychological intervention, together with psychiatry and dermatology, to provide better care for dermatological conditions.
