Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss aspects of psychic suffering inherent to suicide. Based on the description of the phenomenon, it highlights the unconscious dimension of behaviors and thoughts related to intrasubjective and intersubjective issues, where the subject, faced with excessive pain, understands in its finitude the only form of relief of his suffering. In this sense, the research uses a narrative literature review as a method to understand suicide from the perspective of the psychoanalytic theoretical framework in contrast to contemporary reality. Therefore, the scope of the investigation raised questions about the driving forces as influencers of psychic processes that lead to the compulsion to repeat analogous situations and inevitably to self-destruction, as they attempt to elaborate traumatic events through adaptation mechanisms. Assigning meaning to unconscious content makes it possible to work through traumatic and painful experiences. In other words, remembering and expressing these experiences is fundamental to transforming repetitive patterns, to making sense of the unseen, by recognizing and elaborating the psychological suffering associated with suicide.
