Abstract

This study is an integrative review that aimed to identify how the scientific literature addresses the relationship between monogamy and domestic violence/femicides. Data collection was conducted in six databases: B-on, BVS, Pubmed, Redalyc, Scielo, and Wiley. The descriptors used were "Violence against women" AND monogamy; femicide AND monogamy; and femicide AND monogamy, with their respective translations in English and Spanish. Out of the initial 114 studies, only seven were selected. The results were grouped based on categorical content analysis, forming the categories: "violence," "gender," "monogamy," "romantic love as a cause of violence," and "strategies to cope with violence." It is concluded that, despite the unanimous correlation found in the seven analyzed articles linking violence against women/femicides to monogamy, the latter tends to be underexplored as a normative system. The need to increasingly highlight the correlation between mononormativity and domestic violence/femicides is emphasized.
