Abstract

Psychological violence against women is complex and perverse, as it encompasses aspects and manifestations that go far beyond verbal violence. This qualitative study aimed to investigate the perception of adult women about psychological violence against women. The participants were six female from 33 to 72 years of age attended at the Reference Center for Assistance to Women in a municipality in Vale do Paranhana-RS. The instruments used in the research were a sociodemographic questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. From the analysis of the results, three categories were listed: “reports and experiences about psychological violence”, “effects of psychological violence” and “responsibility for violence”. It can be noticed that this violence is difficult to identify and, sometimes, it is naturalized in relationships. The consequences can be harmful beyond the emotional aspect, but in the integral health of the woman and her affective network. The frequent need for public policies and specialized services to meet this demand is highlighted.
