Abstract

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects children and adults, having an impact on their lives and resulting in academic, professional, social, and emotional difficulties. The objective of this study was to describe the levels of quality of life (QoL) in Brazilians diagnosed with ADHD who are undergoing psychotherapeutic and/or pharmacological treatment. A total of 106 adults participated in the study and completed a sociodemographic questionnaire and the World Health Organization QoL Scale (WHOQOL-Bref). The profile of the participants in this study, contrary to the majority of the literature, consisted of individuals with high levels of education and employment. However, the majority of them perceive their QoL as low, as 40.6% reported it as regular and 28.3% stated that it needs improvement, compared to those who perceive it as good (29.2%) or very good (1.9%). This finding raises the discussion about the effectiveness and efficacy of the treatment and its alignment with the values and goals of the patients. It is recommended that healthcare professionals pay attention to the cost in maintaining routines, work, well-being, and conduct periodic evaluations of deficits and potentials to develop a treatment plan tailored to the characteristics and needs that promote a better perception of QoL.
