Abstract

The "Digital Bubbles" are a new phenomenon of the Internet and are present in Search Engines and Social Networks. They may place the internet users in an unfavorable position, by limiting and biasing the information that reaches them. The objective of this study was to investigate academic works published about online media over the past 10 years about this theme, understand the impact of this bubbles on the social network users’ behavior and propose possible alternatives to address this phenomenon. PRISMA methodologies were used for data collection and PICT for data analysis. While there are positive impacts from the use of the networks and their subsequent bubbles, such as improved connectivity, technological and scientific development, and more accessibility, there are several problems in the increase of filter bubbles as it occurs today. One of the main problems is the lack of clarity of the user who is subjected to this control and its impacts on their daily lives. The study also highlights the political and social consequences these bubbles may cause, and explains the relevance and the innovation of the theme. This research also aims at contributing to a deeper understanding on how the technological revolution affects our lives and can even shape our behavior. Based on this, control relationships were identified. As a result, one of the ways to control the "Digital Bubbles" would be to provide a digital education and other forms of counter-control, but this requires raising users' awareness of the fact that they are being controlled.
