Abstract

The contemporary labor plot has gained specific contours over the last five decades and displays an overview panorama marked by loss of social rights, flexibility, instability, and substandardness. We highlight, from the 1970s, the productive capitalist restructuring, the advance of neoliberalism, and, in the 21st century, the accelerating changes in the work setting, the 2008 crisis, and the inclusion of Information and Communication Technologies. The Uber company was founded in 2009 and quickly gained a prominent role by inaugurating a movement that neither starts nor ends with it. It is a relief for its solid global expressiveness and the “uberization” neologism. The event synthesizes a new work control, organization, and management system, deepening the vulnerability of an eminently precarious category, the target of research we developed, namely, delivery cyclists, giving unprecedented contours to the bicycle delivery activity. Specifically, the present manuscript was produced from a master’s research analysis with cyclists on how uberization is a reference in their work experience. Data were built through semi-structured interviews with nine cyclist deliverers and a research diary, analyzed from the sociological discourse analysis perspective. The present work focuses on deepening the understanding of spacetime reconfiguration in bicycle delivery activity, driven by the veiled requirement of enlarged availability.
