Abstract

Social networks are very present in forms of human interaction and exert influence on behavior patterns and on trends that arise in society. Especially those like Instagram, which has images, including selfies, as a means through which these interactions take place. This study investigated the association between the habits of capturing and editing selfies and the relationship with body shape concerns of 170 women who use Instagram (23.6 ± 3.9 years).  Two instruments were used: the Selfie Capturing and Editing Activities Questionnaire on Instagram, an instrument developed by the researchers, and the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ). The data was analyzed using the G Test, in the Bioestat 5.3 program, and the significance level adopted was 5% (p<0.05). With the results, there was an association between habits of capturing and editing selfies with concerns related to body shape, and that most participants do not have high levels of concern. It was concluded that there is an association between the habit of capturing and editing selfies of female Instagram users, with body concerns and that studies with larger samples are needed in the national territory.
