Abstract

This systematic review sought to identify how violence against women has been approached from the perspective of Social Representations. Articles published between January 2017 and August 2022, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, were selected. The searches took place between June and August 2022 and were adapted to different databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Web of Science, Pepsic and Scopus, using the keywords: “social representations” OR “social representations” OR “social representations” AND “violence against women” OR “intimate partner violence” OR “violence against women” OR “intimate partner violence” OR “violencia contra la mujer” OR “violencia de pareja”. Nine papers met the inclusion criteria. The productions based their arguments on three categories: 1) Violence Against Women perpetrated by intimate partners, 2) Violence against women by the Justice and 3) Social consequences of violence against women among health professionals. Regardless of where the research was carried out, the negative view of violence against women and of the person or entity that commits the violent act is repeated, presented as something to be prevented and fought or even better discussed, in order to avoid stigmatization and problems resulting from it.
