Abstract

The objective of this study is to apprehend the meanings about motherhood of female adolescents in juvenile correctional detention. The observations (ethnography) took place in 2021, during 16 days (80 hours), and there was no direct contact with the adolescents. The records were organized in groups of meaning: environment; observed activities; compliance with the detention program; maternity, and intimate partner. The research was carried out during the critical period of the coronavirus pandemic. Motherhood is part of every aspect throughout detention for the teenage mothers, mediating relationships with professionals in the institution, and increasing their vulnerability. There is motivation and expectation of changes towards the future, especially concerning contact with the child. On the period of confinement amid the pandemic, suffering intensified with the distancing, since they were without physical contact with their children, family and friends.
