Abstract

It is known that work plays important roles in the individual's life and, in the case of athletes, in their professional identity, which suffers important consequences when they retire. Thus, the present study aimed to develop a Professional Orientation program focused on the needs of athletes who are in the process of retirement. Two subjects participated in the research, a male active athlete and a female retired athlete, with whom 8 meetings were transcribed and analyzed using the IRaMuTeQ software. The results indicate that, through speech, the participants were able to reflect on the sporting context, their interpersonal relationships, mental health, sport as work, and their career planning after sport. Such aspects involve concerns, personal likes, fears, and uncertainties. We conclude that the study enabled reflections on personal and professional tastes and preferences, helping them to build a professional and personal action plan.
