Abstract

Given the pandemic scenario, mothers and/or fathers, educators and health professionals have been concerned about the impact of social distance on child development. The objective is to analyze how mothers and/or fathers perceive the emotional impacts related to the change of children's routine in educational and social contexts, among others, during the period of social distance. This is a descriptive, exploratory, qualitative study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 mothers and one father of children aged 6 to 9 years old. The interviews were transcribed and submitted to content analysis, and seven categories emerged. Of these, one category will be discussed in the study. The results of the study pointed out that the main emotional manifestations are the fear of contamination by the virus, the anger of not being able to go out and socialize with peers, and the sadness of being away from classmates, grandparents, and school. It is concluded that although at the present time there is flexibility of social activities and the resumption of face-to-face teaching, parents perceive significant emotional impacts due to the period of social distance.
