Abstract

Data from the World Health Organization indicate that the elderly population will increase from 841 million to 2 billion by 2050. Therefore, we can see population aging as a Brazilian reality as well. Research carried out by the IBGE in 2012 pointed to a predominance of women in this age group, a phenomenon known as the feminization of old age. Faced with this reality, the objective of this study was to listen to women between 60 and 70 years old who participate in social groups for the elderly, in order to know how they understand and experience the aging process. This is a descriptive research with a qualitative clinical design. The interviews were carried out via a digital platform, successive readings of the collected materials and field diary were carried out. The technique used was based on thematic analysis. From the analysis of the interviews, four categories emerged: Old is always the other, You get older, things are getting less, It's time for the old woman to retire and La has bingo to always be in communication with people.
