Abstract

During the context of the pandemic of COVID-19, there was a need for adaptation in social living due to isolation and health and safety measures, thus, it was hypothesized that eating behavior was also affected. Therefore, this systematic literature review sought to investigate the impacts of this new reality on eating behavior. Twenty-four articles were selected, found on two different platforms: APA PsycNet and MedLine. The results indicated a predominance of studies conducted by research in online forms, with the main themes addressed: changes in eating behavior during the pandemic, reduction of consultations for professional follow-up of those with a previous diagnosis of eating disorder, and the increased use of social networks and their effects on eating behavior. Even with a diversity of materials, this study lacks larger and more comprehensive studies, highlighting the existing cultural diversity and the demand of the transition from professional to online follow-up. Despite the increasing access to diverse data, it is not possible to quantify and generalize the impact of the pandemic context in eating disorders, due to the contemporaneity of the theme.
