Abstract

The Stroop Test of Colors and Words is a neuropsychological measure world renowed and widely used in clinical and experimental contexts. However, the literature points to a diversity of functions, and for this reason, an integrative literature review was carried out in order to raise which theoretical constructs are indicated as a target in this evaluation, as well as, the versions used and the contexts in which the test was employed. The research methodology consisted of an integrative bibliographic survey using the descriptors “stroop test and neuropsychological tests” and “stroop test and neuropsychological tests” in the databases BVS Saúde, Medline and Lilacs, in 2017, 2018 and 2019. As inclusion criteria, it was defined that the articles should be wholly available, in English, Portuguese and Spanish, and have a format similar to the Victoria Version. As a result, 134 studies were found that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Among them, 31 definitions of constructs or skills identified by the test, with the executive functions construct being the most cited. In relation to versions, 21 versions were identified, and about to contexts and samples, 67 were the target of their evaluation. It is concluded that the Stroop test is a measure widely used and adapted for different languages and its plurality is perceived both in relation to what it is intended to measure, as well as the contexts and samples for which it is intended.

Key-words: stroop test; neuropsychology; neuropsychological assessment; neuropsychological test; executive functions.
