Abstract

The rise of zadokism in Israel implied a theocratic government, whose high priest held both temporal and spiritual powers. This form of government implied that the population of Judah was under theocratic supremacy. This form of government may be related to the decline of prophecy in Israel and, on the other hand, to the emergence of an alternative and contesting current called Apocalyptic Literature. This Literature presents some spiritual figures called Archangels and Demons. But what would, in fact, be the importance of these spiritual leaders in relation to the sociopolitical and religious framework of Judah in this period? Thus, we wish to describe the development of these angelic and evil leaders and their possible relationship with the sociopolitical and religious life of Judah.
