Abstract

Psalm 128, one of the Songs of the Ascents, brings a deep reflection on the happiness and blessing that accompany those who fear the Lord. As a wisdom poem, it highlights the importance of family life and work, showing them as paths that lead to prosperity and peace. Happiness (אַשְׁרֵי) is associated with the fear (יִרְאָה) of the Lord and manifests itself in different areas of life, from effort at work to the family environment. From this perspective, the wife is compared to a fruitful vine, and the children to olive shoots, images that evoke fertility, continuity and blessing.

The poem uses elements of nature to convey its message, emphasizing that divine blessing is not restricted to the individual, but extends to the community, connecting family prosperity to the well-being of Zion and Jerusalem. The proximity to other wisdom texts reinforces its pedagogical character, making it almost a catechism about family life. Although its structure is not always so clear in methodological terms, the message of Psalm 128 remains current. He emphasizes that true happiness comes from the fear of the Lord and living his teachings. More than an ancient text, this psalm can be seen as an invitation to a spiritual pilgrimage, where the path towards Jerusalem symbolizes the search for a full and blessed life.
