Abstract

The phenomenon of migration and displacement in search of refuge is as old as the establishment of people in states. States, as well as the Church, face the challenges posed by migration. It is not without reason that the Roman Catholic Church dedicates a day to migrants and refugees. However, this approach to population displacement has long-standing precedents. Sacred Scripture attests to several cases of displacement of people, especially in the Old Testament. The purpose of this article is to understand how the Bible dealt with the issue. To this end, a bibliographical analysis is carried out, especially analyzing the biblical texts that bear witness to this phenomenon. This article follows the following steps: analysis of the vocabulary and semantic field of migration in Scripture; analysis of texts relating to migration and then those relating to refuge and, finally, a theological reflection on the places of departure and arrival of migrants and refugees.
