Abstract

The present study, from a theoretical-bibliographical approach, seeks to analyze the hypothesis that Francis’ pontificate is characterized by a movement of ecclesiastical renewal, as a reception of the broad process of aggiornamento set in motion by the Second Vatican Council. The aim is to address the living Tradition of the Church and its relationship with the process of ecclesiastical renewal. It is considered that it is necessary to deepen the theological understanding of the Tradition of the Church, in order to highlight it as a dynamic reality that is a condition of possibility for any and all authentic ecclesiastical renewal. If Christian Tradition were an immobile and rigid reality, it would be doomed to die. The Church has its origin and continuity in the reality of Tradition, which is constitutive of its being and acting. Fidelity to Tradition requires updating in the face of new contexts and challenges, with the aim of fostering an authentic experience of the Gospel.
