Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, pregnant women were at greater risk of worsening symptoms in the pandemic and, in some cases, impacts on the pregnancy-puerperal cycle. Therefore, this qualitative, cross-sectional, and retrospective research aimed to approach the hospitalization and birth experience of pregnant women with COVID-19 in an Intensive Care Unit. Data were collected remotely from three women who answered a sociodemographic and health form and simply attended a semi-structured interview, which was transcribed afterwards. The thematic analysis of Braun and Clarke was conducted in the transcribed interviews leading to six different themes: COVID-19 infection and rupture of the expected pregnancy cycle; the hospitalization process experience; parenting building: the mother-baby bonding from the hospital until nowadays; the outside hospital life; coping suffering mechanisms; post-COVID sequels and life transformations. The results led to the conclusion that hospitalization during pregnancy affected emotional, social, and physical, impacting the mother-baby relationship and the parental building.
