Abstract

The objective of this article is to verify some contributions of Ambrosian preaching to Lenten homiletics. Using a bibliographical research, we will begin by approaching the biblical and euchological texts of Lent, leading to the theme of liturgical preaching. We will discuss the Lenten season at the time of Ambrose, bishop of Milan, focusing on two aspects of Ambrosian catechesis: moral teaching, especially in relation to the patriarch Abraham, and the practice of fasting. From these data, we ask: what is the contribution of the Ambrosian preaching in the preparation of the homily in the light of the Lectionary and the Missal during Lent? The expected results indicate that, with the help of Ambrose's catechesis, the preacher demonstrates that the Word and the Eucharist constitute the nourishment of the baptized during their journey toward the Easter celebrations.
