Resumo

The aim of this study was to analyze whether sociodemographic and academic life variables influence the cognitive and metacognitive self-regulation of future teachers. Participants included 604 students from three Brazilian public universities, two located in Paraná and one in São Paulo. Participants answered a sociodemographic and academic life questionnaire and a learning strategies assessment scale. After approval of the project by the Ethics Committee, data were collected via a link generated by Google Forms. Descriptive, comparative, and regression analyses were performed using SAS software. The results of the descriptive analysis revealed frequent use of cognitive and metacognitive self-regulation. Statistically significant differences were found between cognitive and metacognitive self-regulation and the variables: age, gender, university, self-perception of grades, and degree of intention to continue the course. It was also observed that age, gender, and degree of intention to continue the course predict cognitive and metacognitive self-regulation. Understanding the cognitive and metacognitive self-regulation of future teachers and its predictive factors is important for planning interventions that promote self-regulation. It is suggested that future studies investigate self-regulation in conjunction with other sociodemographic variables.
