Resumo

This study explores educational assessment ideas and methods, drawing on the perspectives of students in the Pedagogy program at a public higher education institution in the Federal District, specifically those taking a mandatory 60-hour learning assessment course in the second semester of 2024. We intend to understand whether the training provides a theoretical and practical groundwork for developing critical awareness regarding evaluation. This qualitative study used an electronic questionnaire on Google Forms to collect data. Content Analysis (Bardin, 2020) was employed to read and organize the data, which yielded two distinct categories: theoretical-practical coherence in teacher training, and contributions of training in school evaluation to the practice of teaching – perceptions of undergraduate students. The findings reveal that within this discipline: essential concepts for future teachers to evaluate in basic education are addressed; there is formative potential and conception and conduction through the theory-practice unity; students gain experience of formative processes in a content-form relationship; the teacher's performance is relevant for the identification of undergraduate students with teaching; the need to overcome the hegemony of classificatory evaluation and the pedagogy of failure is favored; the opportunity is provided to recognize that in the researched discipline teachers use formative assessment methods.
