Resumo

This study aimed to understand how the pedagogical practices of non-education-degree teachers contribute to their professional socialization process. A qualitative study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with eight teachers from Professional and Technological Education (PTE) who work in Integrated Secondary Education at a federal institution. Data were analyzed using Content Analysis, with Hughes’ professional socialization model as the theoretical framework, in dialogue with Dubar, considering three stages: passage through the looking-glass, installation of duality, and adjustment of self-conception. In the passage through the looking-glass, it was observed that teaching, mostly initiated unintentionally, is marked by didactic-pedagogical gaps. In the installation of duality, tensions between technical ideals and real work, dilemmas between university entrance exam preparation (ENEM) and technical training, and institutional barriers stand out. In the adjustment of self-conception, professional maturity, identity reconfiguration, and expansion of didactic repertoire become evident. Overall, pedagogical practice emerges as the core of teacher socialization, articulating technique and reflection, and constituting itself simultaneously as both product and driver of this process. The study contributes to understanding teacher professionalization in PTE and reinforces the need for institutional policies for continuing education.
